Questions:

"My teacher Mr. Phelps says that gay people are pushing their lifestyle on other people. Is that true?"

Training for our prospective and veteran speakers

"Be the change you want to see in the world."

If you dream of a world where LGBTQ youth can feel safe, welcome and included in their schools and communities, then train with Greater Boston PFLAG and that world will exist. If you dream of a world where LGBTQ adults have the same rights and privileges as their heterosexual peers, then train with Greater Boston PFLAG and create that world.

We need you.

Announcing Greater Boston PFLAG (Parents, Families and Friends of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender People) Speaker Training

Saturday, February 3, 2007

9 am to 6 pm in Waltham!

Since 1993, Greater Boston PFLAG's Safe Schools & Communities Project has provided speakers for schools, community, religious and corporate organizations as part of the statewide Safe Schools Program. We are fortunate to have over 75 trained speakers. However, the majority of our engagements are fulfilled by a handful of dedicated and available speakers. We need more speakers to fulfill the increasing requests for our programs.

Greater Boston PFLAG is offering FREE one-day training for parents, families and friends of GLBT people and GLBT people.

Saturday, February 3, 2007 from 9 am to 6 pm

at the PFLAG office, 85 River Street, Waltham, MA 02453-8349

Register today by calling (781) 891-5966 or email: info@gbpflag.org.

There is no charge for the training; however, all speakers are required to become members of Greater Boston PFLAG. ($40 for annual membership. Get membership form at Downloads - under the picture.)

Refreshments and Lunch will be provided.

Please feel free to pass along this information to anyone you know who may be interested in becoming a speaker.

Everyone has a story to tell. We will train you to find the story you want to tell, how to answer questions and feel confident that you can make a difference in the lives of GLBTQ youth. Many people do not feel like they are public speakers.

This is really an opportunity to learn how to talk about a personal experience in a way that will spark a dialogue about GLBTQ people and ensure that schools and communities are safe and welcoming places for all people.

Please know that you can participate in the training but it does not obligate you to be a speaker. Folks may begin speaking when they feel ready and will get support, assistance and encouragement from the Safe Schools staff.

Your story can make a huge difference in the life of a young person.

Our goal is to have up to 10 new parents and/or friends and family members and GLBT people participate in this valuable training. Please feel free to pass this on to others who might be interested in speaking for Greater Boston PFLAG.

Thank you.
